AmCham Shanghai came to IT Consultis with one crucial pain point: 5 different, separate platforms that were outdated and needed to be consolidated.

Period of Collaboration

Delivered in 2017 and maintenance until today

Abstract

The American Chamber of Commerce chose IT Consultis to revamp their digital assets and consolidate their five micro-websites into one. By leveraging Drupal 8 and React as the backend and frontend solution, IT Consultis deployed a website that is not only visually stunning but also incredibly fast and user-friendly with easy navigation and useful content.

Challenges

The American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai (AmCham) is the largest American Chamber of Commerce in the Asia Pacific Region and was the third established outside of the United States (1915).

While not dating back to these times, the Chamber’s website was not adhering to the web design principles of the past years and used five different platforms: a home page on Microsoft Content Management Software, a Drupal 7 website, articles and resources on WordPress and lastly two different Chapter websites on two separate WordPress pages. Using that many tools hindered usability and manageability.

The challenge was clear: in order to have the Chamber operate effectively, it was crucial to redesign AmCham’s website and to unify all sites under one single platform.

Solution

Drupal 8 was chosen as the most suitable Content Management Software to unify each one of the Chamber’s platforms. React was chosen for the frontend while being connected by API using a custom module to the backend. While this module would enable different content types, taxonomies and menus created on Drupal to be displayed it would also ensure future frontend developers to be free to process as many changes as they want without accessing the backend.

With powerful foundations, the website could now be equipped with a CRM tool. EventBank was connected by API to ensure the Chamber has powerful tools to manage the website properly.

Lastly, IT Consultis completely revamped the website to make it beautiful, user-friendly and easy to use.

Impact

The result is a user-friendly website that runs like a charm and is better in every single way. The whole ecosystem’s usability has been greatly improved as well as its look and feel. In terms of performance, the capabilities of combining React and Drupal was truly impressive.

IT Consultis trusts that thanks to its new website, the American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai will be able to offer the same quality service to its members in the years to come.
