The toughlex team implemented an innovative and interactive website which represents as a report of Kaunas University of Technology activities in 2015.

Context

The Kaunas University of Technology is one the largest technological universities in the Baltics. Known for its linkages with business, leadership in scientific research, flexible interdisciplinary study programmes and unforgettable study experience, KTU is fast forwarding to becoming an internationally acknowledged institution of higher education. Since its establishment in 1922, University has had more than 130,000 graduates.

Project Goal

KTU administration wanted a website which would show their goals and achievements over a few years. A website must be innovative, far-sighted, noisy, international, tidy and fair – as University itself. There must be 12 sections with some relevant, related and nicely placed content which could be called as a report.

Solution

We cooperated with UAB Elektronynės Leidybos Namai in this project. Our colleagues from ELN were responsible for the design wireframes while the toughlex team had to make their ideas come true. Every section was unique in design and content as well. The sections shared very little among themselves. The final solution came up very lightweight and compatible with any browser.

Responsive Design

The report of KTU is fully responsive. All the design solutions can be clearly seen on any screen regardless of its width. Every part symmetrically respects the width of the screen and resizes accordingly.

Animations

Animations – the main part which makes the Report of KTU so attractive. It can be found at every step: moving arrows, lightened logo, moving triangles, dynamic dots, increasing numbers, blinking blocks, self-drawing bed or globe and many more. Each of the animations required great attention to every detail of the vector graphics. Vector graphics approach let us produce massive animations quality even on extremely high resolutions.

Styling

Every section of the report contains custom styling. Some common style patterns are re-used across the blocks but because of unique wireframes, all the pages needed extra attention to every detail.

Technologies

The toughlex team wanted to make this Report as performative as possible. Because of this, as less as possible 3rd party tools were used. Plain CSS was used for static styling while TimelineMax.js was used as a core for all the dynamics of the page. Also, waypoints.js was used to determine where the user scrolled to. RequireJS was introduced to load not only JS files but custom-made modules as well.
