Rideshare Tax, digitizing the taxation process for rideshare drivers.

The Problem

Rideshare Drivers in Australia are often less informed on the complexities of tax obligations as a contractor. Most Drivers are often time-poor, prioritizing driving, earning an income over spending the time and effort on staying tax compliant.

The Solution

Selda Kaplan and Michael Kambouridis at Rideshare Tax identified the drivers’ pain points, made the efforts to understand the rideshare industry, and worked quickly to offer a solution. Rideshare Tax.

Uber in Australia was the first major rideshare giant to give Rideshare Tax it’s full support. Allowing Rideshare Tax to connect and retrieve Rideshare Tax registered Uber drivers’ completed trip information including earnings and GST information.

Rideshare Drivers are also able to input additional income and expenses directly through the Rideshare Tax mobile app. It’s secure and it is also an excellent way to store invoices and receipts.

Through the Rideshare Tax app, live GST obligations are now available to the Driver based on a daily, monthly, and quarterly basis.

At the end of the quarter, the Driver can obtain their BAS information free. Alternatively, with just a few taps through the Rideshare Tax mobile app, it can all be taken care of by the Rideshare Tax team. The same applies to the Driver’s annual tax return.

“I’ve put myself in the driver’s seat and I understand how the drivers feel and what they want. They don’t want to be out driving for the whole day and then come home and think about taxes let alone the hefty prices. We’ve designed the app based on the driver’s needs and in line with the ATO laws. Our app takes care of everything for the driver and provides the tools required to be tax compliant”— Michael Kambouridis

Michael is an accountant and dedicates part of his time each week driving Uber, Didi, and Ola. Through his own experience, putting himself in the shoes of a Driver he was able to identify that minimal involvement to stay tax compliant is paramount.

Understanding Rideshare Tax’s Audience is just one part of the puzzle for a successful startup. Operations and planning are equally important. Whilst Michael is out driving, gaining valuable insight into the industry. Selda is usually busy being the glue of the business that keeps it all together.

Rideshare Tax 2.0

In mid-2019, Michael and Selda made the executive decision to ditch the previous version of the Rideshare Tax app because it was buggy and limiting Rideshare Tax’s growth.

A partnership was formed between Rideshare Tax and Techne R&D Holdings Limited to build Rideshare Tax 2.0.

“The new Rideshare Tax app must be fast, user-friendly, reliable, with high-level data security and contain zero bugs”— Selda Kaplan

Those words from Selda were the seed and beginning of an exciting initial build that took a little over 3 months.

Based on Techne R&D’s recommendations, the old PHP backend was completely scrapped along with the React frontend apps. Replaced with a new distributed Java backend utilizing the vue.js framework, Native iOS coded with Swift, and Native Android coded with Java.

Combining excellent business practice, management, and the technologies backup by Techne R&D Holdings Limited. Rideshare Tax has outgrown its original user base by 10 times since the launch of the new Rideshare Tax platform.

Registered Rideshare Tax Rideshare Drivers are asking for additional integrations with other Rideshare companies. Techne R&D Holdings Limited is currently designing additional API to facilitate additional integrations.

The future is bright for Rideshare Tax because it’s the solution that is needed by the industry. Its founders are hard-working and diligent. The platform is efficient, robust, and reliable.

Success for Rideshare Tax is inevitable.
