SPAR Denmark – Mobile Apps

About the Project

Even though SPAR had apps in other countries, Spar Denmark was lacking one. So we were approached to develop such apps for both iOS and Android.

It was a big project, since we had to work on several fronts:

• Web server – for the back-end to supply data to the apps
• Webapp – available online without the need for installing apps
• iOS app
• Android app

The two apps are pretty nice, but they wouldn’t be what they are without the back-end webservice and its custom CMS we have created to serve the proper data. Some of the cool things it does:

• Integrates with e-pages.dk RSS feed of SPAR to serve the weekly catalogues with SPAR’s offers into the apps
• Offers management of push notifications to send to all the app users
• Offers creation of in-app banners with image and/or video content
• Manage gift vouchers that users can get in the apps and use in one of SPAR’s stores

The apps themselves feature a lot of things:

• Catalogues browsing
• Recipes – with calculator for quantities depending on for how many you are cooking
• Shop locator
• Shopping list section
• Receipts and expenses section
• Barcode scanning
• Newsletter subscription
