The Fayrix team has become a full-fledged SCR unit and helped to develop new features for one of the existing SenseHub system modules – the Sorting Gate.

SCR Diary is a global leading developer, manufacturer and marketer of dairy cow monitoring and herd management solutions with 35+ years of experience. SCR has 7 offices across the globe with HQ in Israel and a wide range of technology partners.

During its first 20 years of operations, the company focused on developing electro-mechanical devices for dairy farms, pulsators and automatic detachers. Over the last 10 years, SCR firmly established its place amongst dairy farmers, leading the industry with advanced cow monitoring solutions based on activity and rumination sensors.

Product Overview

The SenseHub is a standalone system that provides several solutions for farmers in the world. The system supports two options: Dairy and Beef. The system designed for a health checking of animals, cow’s reproduction, milking statistics and other more. The system consists of 4 core products:

Allflex Sensehub — is a standalone system that was designed for a health checking of animals, cow’s reproduction, milking statistics etc.

Sensehub sorting gate — that automatically sort cows coming out of the parlor without having to touch them.

Network management system — helps to inform about critical issues for support engineers prematurely and dedicates common issues from all devices.

Sensehub Administration — supports all administration options: backups builder, upgrader, manager of services and more all.

Business Challenge

SCR has planned to expand its core product responding to the challenges of the market and its customers. At the same time, the company ran into some difficulties:

  1. shortage of high-class engineers in office locations,
  2. high cost of SCR in-house team,
  3. the desire to expand the team at a fast pace,
  4. the need for engineers with a specific background.

Initial Team Building

Fayrix formed an initial team of 13 high-quality software developers for SCR for just a couple of weeks. Each team member completed the test task and went through 3 stages of an interview with the customer.

Project Results: Team Deliverables

The Fayrix team of qualified developers significantly reduced the load on the SCR team and accelerated the development of the main product by 15%. During the project, a wide range of complex and interesting tasks was solved, including launching Java applications on compact machines based on Raspberry Pi. This allowed the deployment of standalone solutions on customer farms. Fayrix team took over the main areas of responsibility: back-end development, front-end development, QA and Data Science.

Productivity Growth

At the moment, the sprint contains an average of 160 tasks which allows the team to clearly follow SCR’s backlog and issue releases every 2 sprints. SCR has increased the productivity and quality of the developed product up to 20% via:

  • 15% growth the number of tasks finished in time
  • X2 reduction in the number of tasks paused or moved to next sprint
  • 20% overall productivity growth
