Google recently introduced the concept of Core Web Vitals. According to Google, The Core Web Vitals are a set of regulated factors. The vitals are essential for an overall user experience as they will concentrate on enhancing the user’s experience while using the website. Core Web Vitals are formulated for developers so that the tools are utilized to create an effective website for all the website owners. Core Web Vitals are useful for developers as they separate the user’s real page experience on the website.

The vitals will be helpful to determine websites page performance scores and contribution to the overall ranking.

Core Web Vitals are important for SEO to improve websites visibility. The core web vitals will make a website more noticeable by preparing it accurately. Increased web browsers ranking will provide its audience with a hassle-free experience.

The core web vitals are divided into 3 metrics to measure websites page performance for a smooth and seamless experience for its users. These metrics are:

  • Largest Contentful Paint (LCP) – LCP means the speed and time taken for loading content on a website page. The moment one clicks a website page link, the loading page speed is measured. The user wants to view the content within seconds. The difference between LCP and other page speed measurements like TTFB and First Contextual Paint is that they never measure these factors of a website page. LCP scores are checked with the help of Google PageSpeed Insights to find the areas for improvement. The focus of LCP is to improve the visibility and users page interactions. The websites actual performance can be checked by using Google PageSpeed Insights.

Google has particular guidelines to use LCP. They are: Good, Needs Improvement, and Poor.

LCP is considered good only if the loading time of a website page is within 2.5 seconds that can be difficult for wide web pages that may have too many features to achieve. LCP’s limitations can be improved in the following ways:

Getting rid of unnecessary third-party scripts to increase the speed of the page

Upgrading to a better web host for loading website content fast

Change settings to lazy loading. It will load images only if someone scrolls on the page that will improve the speed of LCP eventually.

Google PageSpeed Insights notifies large-size elements on the website page that slows down the speed. It is better to remove these elements for faster LCP.

  • Interactivity – Interactivity means the first input delay that measures the time taken by a user for interaction on the website’s pages. Features for better user interactions include clicking on menu options, navigation bar, filling out personal details forms, opening up “accordion text” on mobile devices, etc.

Google measures Interactivity based on the time taken by users to click on the page. This metric is suitable for pages like sign-up pages or login pages as users have to click a lot on such pages.

Following are the ways to improve Interactivity scores:

Delay in Javascripts will allow users to interact with the website page significantly.

It is advisable to eliminate unnecessary third-party scripts like Google Analytics as this can impact Interactivity’s performance.

Browser cache helps load content on your page faster.

  • Cumulative Layout Shift – CLS means the visual stability of content while loading the website’s page. It makes sure that all elements are loaded simultaneously rather than loading only one or two-element. It is required to avoid any bad user experience caused by elements that take too long to load or moves a lot. It is essential for mobile devices as this can lead to users clicking on something they did not mean to. and cause a bad user experience.

The size of media like video, gifs, images, should be set to minimize CLS. It will make sure that elements will load within the available space of the browser’s page. Advertisements must be properly placed on the web page. Also, new User Interface elements can be added to the website pages.

To conclude, as per Google, the core web vitals are the set of metrics to improve the user’s experience. Website changes can be done by using the tools to make the required changes for website performance. It is an important part for SEO to better page experience by using better UX.
