Creating engaging educational games that stimulate a student’s desire to learn.

Elements of Successful Game-Based Learning

Robot Sea Monster is dedicated to making educational games that are stimulating for students, using structured interactive media to spark interest and make content more engaging. We have worked directly with educators to implement assessment tools to gauge learner retention and identify areas that need improvement. Our games have conformed to national educational curriculum standards, and we don’t shy away from challenges of a difficult curriculum. Our goal is to create a product that will foster a desire to learn in  students, while still providing enough entertainment to keep them coming back for more.

We’ve worked with large brands like Pearson, Williams Learning Solutions, The Young Socratics, and more to make games loved by kids and educators alike!

Founded in San Francisco by Josh Rose and Reggie Muth, Robot Sea Monster is a diverse, world-class team, ready to fight for you. Our strength has been provided to over 38 projects, with 7 years of Unity Engine game experience, specializing in educational games.

Odyssey

Odyssey is an educational science adventure, providing avid learners with the foundations of scientific reasoning and argumentation.

The Young Socratics pitched us their vision of an educational version of Myst, and RSM brought that concept to life by:

  • Designing, modeling, and implementing each of the hand-crafted game puzzles
  • Assembling the Wretched Isles from the client’s pre-existing art
  • Creating the game’s immersive, environment-rich sound design
  • Coding a new Unity physics engine to ensure a 1:1 experience to the real world to promote more accurate and life-like scientific testing

Early adopters of the Oculus prototypes got a hands-on look at the Wretched Isles; the result was discovery, adventure, and real-life tutorials on scientific principles.

From [Odyssey], a student will begin to get an appreciation of the creative achievement that science represents in an engaging and compelling manner.“ — Jonathan Osborne, Professor of Science Education at Stanford University

Potion Portions

When Robot Sea Monster got involved with Pearson to develop the mathematics game Potion Portions, we first developed a concept that strictly followed the teaching curriculum, including requirements set forth by Next Generation Science Standards. The app provided:

  • Student math challenges in the form of easy-to-play games
  • Administrative dashboards for educators to track student progress
  • Reports to identify struggling students

From concept to development to release, RSM played a vital role in every step of the process, including live operations for a 4 week trial over the holidays. We’re not just a developer—we’re ready to serve live-ops needs too.

The result was a hit in Australian schools for everyone, and the potion shop is undergoing testing to reach schools worldwide!

Williams Learning Solutions

It was our honor to work directly with the CEO of Williams Learning Solutions, Michelle Williams, to produce Eco Challenge, a game aimed at teaching small children the “Ecosystem: Interactions, Energy, and Dynamics” module as set forth by the Next Generation Science Standards. We carried this project from concept through to alpha, providing the complete package: art, sound, and functionality.

Some details of this project have been made available through the Williams Learning Solutions website, such as the personal learning paths, real-life simulations, and more. We’d love to exchange an NDA to tell you more!
