How Appliance Handyman became an international brand.

Appliance Handyman is a small, family-run company that turned into a giant within 2 years of branding and development. Based in Toronto, Canada, Appliance Handyman had a vision to increase online presence in a cost-effective way.

The Challenge

HOMESHOWOFF took on the task of analysing the market in Toronto and the surrounding areas. With fierce competition and sharks on the run — the appliance repair industry is one of the most competitive industries in the region.

Evaluating the core value of the company, Appliance Handyman surrounded itself with the mission to provide quality service cost-effectively with the option — in case the fridge, washer, dryer decided to malfunction again — to have the handyman return free of charge to troubleshoot the problem. Unlike most companies in the Greater Toronto Area — which do not provide such an after service service, Appliance Handyman had a clear competitive edge over others. Hence, it provides customers the assurance that there is a handyman available even after the service was done.

The Work

Rebranding the logo and creating a website was not an easy task. HOMESHOWOFF and the team evaluated the website on a daily basis to track user interaction and to understand the user intent to better convert calls and email numbers. With virtually 1000 hours of work a year, Appliance Handyman expanded their services across the Toronto Region and Ontario wide — with now intent to increase presence in Calgary and Vancouver.

How did it all happen? Education. Homeshowoff not only built a brand, but the team was able to educate the team at Appliance Handyman how to sell better and how to close more jobs, while still keeping the core value of providing excellent customer service.

Since there is virtually no research done on a service such as “fridge repair” — due to low costs of repairs — there is very little for customers to see as a competitive advantage — hence, Appliance Handyman brought massive value to customers and it can be seen all across the region.
