Web and Android App Dev for Student Transportation Company

About the Project

Elmitel built a website and Android mobile app meant to capture and display transportation data. The solution provides real-time vehicle location to multiple stakeholders.

The client that is based with the UK and focus on improving the efficiency and safety of transport for school children and students with special educational needs, needed help with developing a solution with the use of FIWARE technology.

The Solution

Elmitel Development helped manage the project by documenting requirements, planned and executed the SCRUM sprints, and developed the website and Android application. Elmitel with its deep knowledge in FIWARE technology helped build planning software that helps cities or other local authorities plan their transportation services.

The system displays and monitors the routes a vehicle takes on a day-to-day basis, in order to optimize routes and allow students, local authorities, and drivers see where a vehicle is in real-time. Elmitel built NoSQL databases that needed to be accessed by the various applications, as well as a context engine that receives updates on the position of the vehicle as it’s on the road. Complex event processing software was used as well, in order to identify if there were problems in the system, such as a disabled vehicle, and warn the appropriate stakeholders.
